Re: Infection status/Cancellation/Reschedule of Appointment

Dear Dr. Dodson:

In my first evaluation of the infection, a CT scan was scheduled for this Thursday, June 5, 2003. You indicated that I should stop taking antibiotics 7 days prior to June 5, 2003 for the CT Scan. You also want to take a biopsy of the tissue and pull the tooth in the area of the infection. I have concerns about the infection.

The infection is still present and starting late Sunday, the infection and soreness has continued up into the roof of my mouth. This morning the infection has started to back into my ear and a little in my neck. Today I have been having spells of head aches and being sick to my stomach. I hope that this does not get worse so that I am unable to make the trip to Mass General for the appointment on Thursday.

In a prior instance I had a tooth extracted when I had a abscessed tooth and infection in the jaw without antibiotics and it led to further complications from the infection.

Would it be safer to use antibiotics to eliminate the infection from the area before extracting the tooth which is surrounded by the infected area? I would not want this to snow ball into re-opening the sinus fistula.

My insurance company for medical coverage, Anthem, indicates they will not consider referral until they obtain the procedure code for the sinus/CT scan. Would you please call me with this information so I can get the referral.

Sincerely,

Bernard J. Wolfe, Jr.
